PVC SEAT PACKING KIT

Here are your new PVC seat packings. I am sure that you will be able to figure out how to install them but here are a few items that might help along the way.

While you have your seats out, take time to inspect the seat rails for straightness. Turn the seats over and place a straightedge on each rail. I found on all of my seats that the rails had a slight bow in them, making it hard for the mating rail to slide. You may have to tighten or loosen the mounting bolts to get the rail to straighten out. Sometimes people just tighten the bolts never realizing that the bottom of the seat frames may be bent a bit from years of use. This may also be a good time to clean and paint your seat rails if they need it. I also recommend that you run a 1/4X28 TPI tap through the weldnuts in your floor to clean up the threads.

Notice that your kit comes with new spacers and new stainless bolts to replace the old and likely rusted fasteners. The original carpet had holes cut in it so that the spacers would rest directly on the metal floors. Your carpet may or may not have these holes, as a lot of carpets were installed by owners who did not make the holes in the new carpets. If you are able to add the holes, things will go together easier. Place the new spacers in the holes above the weldnuts and then place the new PVC packing strips on the carpet so that the spacers line up with the holes in the packing strips. Before you get too far, take a look at the hole placement. Hopefully you marked the holes that the old bolt came from so you be able to duplicate their positions.

Before you try to install your seats, remove the old seat stops on the rear ends of the two outside seat rails, if you did not take them off when you removed the seats. Install the seat rails on the seat with the rails in their rearmost position. This will allow you free access to the rear bolt holes. I use a screwdriver inserted from under the car through the weldnuts to help align the seat rails. You can also screw a pair of long bolts through the bolt holes from under the car to help align the seat, then remove them one at a time to insert the new bolts from the top. After you have the two bolts in place at the rear of the seat and just snug, not tight, slide the seat all the way to the rear as it will go. This will allow you to use a screwdriver to insert from the top to help locate and align the front weldnuts. Once located, install and tighten the front bolts and then tighten the rear bolts. You can reattach the stops on the outside rails if you desire, but I leave mine off. Squirt a bit of white grease on all four rails from both front and rear, slide the seats a couple of times to spread the grease and you are done!

Well, that’s about it. Hope you enjoy your new seat packings. Unless you tell someone, they will never know that they are not the originals.
