Have you ever wondered what you would do if the under-dash hood release cable breaks? Or if it just rusts up to the point where it is no longer useable? How will you get the hood open to check your oil or even replace the very thing that is made to open the hood? Fumble around and try to operate the catch by forcing a long screwdriver through the front grill? And destroy the front grill in the process? Well, here’s your answer. With the remote hood release included in this package, you will no longer have to worry about how you will get your hood open. Once this kit is installed you will be able to open your hood from either inside the passenger compartment or from outside the car, simply by reaching under the left front fender, just in front of the wheel, with a tug of your new release cable. Here’s how to install your new remote hood release: 1.Unhook your old release cable from it’s attachment point on the hood latch and lay it to one side. If your old cable is multi strand be careful not to untwist it because you will have to reattach it later. 2. Notice that your new release cable has two loops in it’s ends, one large and one small. The small loop slips over the round barrel that your old cable went through. The other end will pass through a hole that you will need to drill in your left inner fender. 3. To locate the position of the hole look for the hole that the wires that feed your headlight pass through. You will need to drill a new hole about one inch behind this hole. The finished hole will need to be of 3/8" diameter so that the cable and sleeve will pass through. I find it easiest to locate the hole with a center punch, then drill an 1/8" hole, then an 1/4" hole and then finally the 3/8" hole. 4. Once you have the hole located and drilled you can attach the latch end of the new cable. To do this, simple slip the loop over the round barrel and then reinsert the original cable and fasten as it was to begin with. Some people just put the cable clamp on the cable next to the barrel and tighten. I prefer to but the clamp on the old cable, pass the cable through the barrel and then back through the cable clamp again, forming a loop and also keeping the end of the old cable out of harms way in the future. 5. Now pass the large loop through the hole that you just drilled. It should just reach out past the inner fender so that the loop stands up within easy reach from inside the fender well. At this point, pull on the new cable while watching the hood latch. It should operate as normal. Also operate the under dash cable and make sure that it works as it should. Both cables should release the hood latch independently. If everything works as it should, then install the plastic grommet over the new cable and slide into the hole till it locks in place. Test everything once more and you’re done!
